We Must Leave
We Must Leave
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the world is going through difficult times and of great uncertainty. Globally, economies have been severely affected, companies and businesses are closing, throwing millions and millions of people into unemployment. In Cape Verde, a small country in the middle of the atlantic ocean, the scenario is identical to that experienced all over the world, with special concern for being a poor country, with few resources.
Our group of companies in Cape Verde, has a strong social responsibility component, especially with regard to children. Over the years, we have developed several initiatives to support disadvantaged children, from providing meals to children who, apart from lunch at schools, eat nothing else all day, to support institutions that welcome children who are at risk (Trough Elysum SGPS, we officially support "Aldeias SOS Cape Verde), among other initiatives.
Although it is public that we support these institutions, our activity is carried out of the spotlight, because whoever supports disadvantaged children should not make a fuss about it, because whoever supports children in need has an obligation to preserve their human dignity.
As the consequences of the pandemic are felt, more and more malnourished children start walking the streets looking for help, asking for something to eat. At the supermarket door, people are asked for a packet of rice, a bottle of oil or a can of sausages. The situation is difficult for everyone, including companies, but it is our duty, it is our obligation not to leave anyone behind. If we have any possibility, however small, we have a moral duty and a social obligation to help those who need it most.
We want to do what we can to help. If we help a child it is good, if we help 10 it is good, if we help 100 it is good. The important thing is that, at the end of the day, we know that we help someone to have a better day. In this sense, we buy food and basic necessities, which are distributed to children and their families in the poorest neighborhoods and the institutions we support in Cape Verde.
Thank you for your support.
